Abstract: Seaweed farming is becoming more common in Pacific island countries. This workshop on farming Kappaphycus alvarezii was held at the request of the Government of Fiji to enhance the capacity of seaweed project field workers and extension officers in Fiji. Staff of Solomon Islands Fisheries also participated. Practical sessions on farming techniques held on the reef were complemented by group and panel discussions on seaweed farming, marketing and development assistance. The report includes Fiji government policies for seaweed farming and the role of extension officers; a brief summary of research findings on seaweed farming in Fiji; outcomes of the workshop panel discussions; and participant feedback.
