Abstract: The mass coral spawning on Fijian reefs was established from surveys and personal communications. Monitoring of 10 scleractinian coral species was conducted on Suva and Fish Patch Reefs to determine simple correlations in egg diameter and fecundity prior spawning and post spawning in October and November. Coral spawning occurred on the fifth night and the sixth night after October and November full moon on these reefs. A sychronised coral mass spawning event was also documented on Astrolobe, Makogai and Makodraga Reefs. As timing of balolo (Eunice viridis) ride coincides with coral mass spawning in Fiji, information on balolo rise in 1989 was also documented. Balolo rose on the ninth morning after the full moon on most outer islands in Fiji.
