Abstract: Development of the fishery for deep-water snappers on the outer reef slopes of Fiji's many islands and reefs has occurred rapidly since 1985, mainly to supply export markets with air-freighted chilled fish at premium prices. This reviews the development of the fishery, its salient features and management of the fishery.
